What We Do
VISION
Regulated sale of alcohol and other approved intoxicants within the State
so as to ensure safety against health hazard and growth in revenue.
MISSION
The mission of the Excise Department is to check the illicit liquor and drug
abuse in order to promote a peaceful and healthy society. The department’s
endeavour is prevention of offences under the Assam Excise Act, 2000 and
Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Another mission of the
department is to reduce the availability of liquor, intensive awareness
campaign against alcoholism and drug abuse. Collection of Excise revenue
through regulated sale of liquor is also a mission of the department.
FUNCTIONS
- Administration of Assam Excise Act, 2000 and the Rules made thereunder.
- Collection of Excise levies on liquor.
- Collection of Intelligence regarding offences under various laws.
- Conduct intensive raids and prompt action on complaints.
- Speedy action on registered cases.
- Training of excise personnel and strengthening preventive machinery.
- Campaign against drug abuse and alcoholism.
- Modernization of infrastructure and working environment.
