Regulated sale of alcohol and other approved intoxicants within the State so as to ensure safety against health hazard and growth in revenue.

MISSION:

The mission of the Excise Department is to check the illicit liquor and drug abuse in order to promote a peaceful and healthy society. The department’s endeavour is prevention of offences under the Assam Excise Act, 2000 and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Another mission of the department is to reduce the availability of liquor,Intensive awareness campaign against Alcoholism and drug abuse. Collection of Excise revenue through regulated sale of liquor is also a mission of the department.

FUNCTIONS:

1. 1. Administration of Assam Excise Act, 2000 and the Rules made thereunder.
2. 2. Collection of Excise levies on liquor.
3. 3. Collection of Intelligence regarding the offences under various laws administered by the Excise deptt.
4. 4. To conduct intensive raids, detect cases and prompt actions on complaints.
5. 5. Speedy actions on cases registered.
6. 6. To provide training to excise personnel and strengthening preventive machinery of the department.
7. 7. To conduct campaign against drug abuse and alcoholism through State Anti Drug and Prohibition Council.
8. 8. Better infrastructure, for modernizing the deptt. with communication facilities and providing a better working environment.

OBJECTIVES:

1. 1. Regulation of sale of alcohol, rectified spirit and denatured spirit and other approved intoxicants.
2. 2. Additional Resource Mobilization for the Government of Assam.
3. 3. Prevention of illicit distillation and clandestine trade in non-duty paid Liquor.
4. 4. Prevention of liquor and drug abuse and illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
5. 5. Sustained campaign against liquor and drug abuse and awareness building.
6. 6. Improved office management and switching over to e-governance.
